My First Market Experience

Blog

Yellow Rose Market is open and alive, however, there is still so much work to do! My triumphs and downfalls all to reach a common goal: quality handmade decor.

Yellow Rose Market’s debut and first ever vendor experience was at the Tomball German Festivals, Christmas Market.

I’ll give you a short backstory: Yellow Rose Market has been in my head since the day I pressed “publish” on the blog. After vigorously learning the in’s and out’s of blogging, my crazy brain is always screaming for more. I’ve always been a crafter/DIYer, then came across a product I couldn’t put down, Chalk Couture. This was the key to open the Market, so prototyping began and my products started coming to life. I struggled with life, work, schedules, and setbacks (like all of us do), but powered through and here she is, YELLOW ROSE MARKET.

I had kicked the idea around to do a vendor show and had applied to the Tomball German Festival back in October. I heard nothing back and thought nothing of it.

I hadn’t launched the Market on the blog yet, we were still nailing down prototypes (no pun intended), paint colors, branding, etc… and didn’t think I was quite ready, anyways.

WELLLLLL, I got a phone call one afternoon from a nice old man telling me about a spot that opened up at the festival and asked if Yellow Rose Market would be interested.

(omg, omg, omg… this thing is like 2 1/2 weeks away… there is no way…) “Sure, I’d LOVE to.”

(getting ready for the show)

That’s me in a nutshell, let’s do it, I always get it done, never back down form a challenge. I guess I can thank my Dad for that one, he’s a go get ‘er 110% of the time.

So after many, many, many late nights, it was German Fest time. My neighbor and newest BFF crafter, so graciously helped me work the booth and even came over to help paint a little!

Yellow Rose Market

The response from the public was amazing, and I almost sold out Saturday so I was up until 4am that night making more signs! Not a horrible problem to have. But, man I’m tired. Ohhh and I cannot take all the credit, my husband stayed up to framing all my work for me!

Overall, it was a huge success and great exposure. I passed out over 500 business cards, took a ton of custom orders, and learned what not to do next time… (make and take ornaments were a flop!)

So where is Yellow Rose Market now? I’m currently learning how to build my eCommerce and getting products uploaded on to the site. I’ll be sure to shout out loud, REAL LOUD when I press “publish”. I promise!

That’s a shame that make and take ornaments were a flop, because I made one and I loved it!!
