I can’t believe we are already 18 weeks into the renovation, it’s gone by fast… and slow. Here’s what we have going on 18 weeks into our renovation.
Well, here we are 18 weeks in.
I’m tired and exhausted. And the crazy thing is, I haven’t really done any physical labor yet. Our contractor has been doing all the work that I’m not qualified, by any means, to do.
I’m mostly tired of living in about 300 square feet with 3 kids. That, and all the headaches that come with this large job in general.

But don’t get me wrong, our garage apartment has been a Godsend! I’d probably be ready for the looney bin if we didn’t have that space to spend our days. (We are still sleeping in the main house at night.) But nice space or not, it’s getting small.
We walk through the mess every day and track it into the back hallway. I’ve been vacuuming and changing sheets like whoa. The kids already know to get their shoes on before walking through the house. Ooh, and our 3-year-old son is having a blast watching all the construction and progress. He lives for dump trucks and hammers.
Ok back to the house progress.
Going into week 18, we are finishing up drywall, taping, mudding, and texture. Old houses present challenges sometimes, and one challenge we had to tackle during drywall was discovering one side of the living room was a half an inch shorter from floor to ceiling. It wasn’t easy to tie in the old living room ceiling to the newly expanded living room ceiling and make it look straight. My type A, likes straight lines, so this is killing me! Mud, sand, repeat…

The windows and exterior doors are in and GORGEOUS… but wait… remember I told you I was getting headaches… well, the windows had to come out and were reinstalled this week due to some manufacturing defects.

The new kitchen cabinets are all in! They are to die for. Every time I walk into the house I just stop and stare for like a good 10 minutes before moving on… not kidding. They make me smile 🙂
