It’s week 4 of the Jeffery Court Renovation Challenge! We are back in the swing of things, and have made a design change… yes we’re crazy!
It’s HUMP DAY WEEK!!! (Cue the cheesy camel commercial… hahaha) We are calling it hump week because we lost a week due to illness. I can’t believe this competition is half over!! I’m not ready for it to be half over yet! Do you think the Jeffery Court Tile gods would grant us an extra couple of weeks?? It’s going by so fast!
As I’ve said before, this is my first time competing in a “timed” competition, and it’s intense working against a clock. Then when you have weeks like last week, you feel like you’re behind!
(Getting Everything Ready)
This week was more prep, aka nothing terribly fun or pretty. The previous owner had nailed 1×2 furring strips in random spots on the garage wall, at the ceiling. We took those down and found some strange wiring and missing sheetrock. We didn’t mess with the wires; the electrician will be coming next week.
The walls were in need of help, so a design change was in order.
Speaking of missing sheetrock… this garage is a mecca of damaged sheetrock. Sheetrock is not my thing. In fact, I hate it. Mudding, sanding, mudding, sanding, mudding, sanding, ahhhhh… SOOOO because of the horrendous sheetrock we have been dealt, we are going in a different direction. FAUX BRICK! It will hide our terrible sheet rock, and I think it will really accent the subway tile chair rail! As I like to say, WIN WIN!
(Half painted Faux Brick Paneling)
The faux brick came in 48 inch x 96 inch panels. It’s made of hardy backer, so it’s mildew and mold resistant. We purchased the panels at The Home Depot, SEE HERE. It comes with red brick, but after installing we painted it Greek Villa by Sherwin Williams (one of my favorite creamy whites). The faux brick will add more time to our project, but thats ok with us, it’s worth it!
If you’d like to know more about the faux brick and how we installed it, let us know!
The concrete step hasn’t been poured yet; we are planning on doing that tomorrow! We built the form, and tomorrow my husband will drill the holes for the rebar, and we will POUR!
(Concrete Step, Form)
An exciting part of the week was getting the sink refinished! I couldn’t wait to see what this old gem would look like all polished up! Ooh and how she shines like a diamond! Just LOOK! We hired this out, no way would we of had time to fit in a first time DIY on this one.
(Before and During Restoration)
(After)
We are still working though our plans on the wood sink base. It’s proving to be a challenge because the underside of the sink has some curves to deal with. But don’t get me wrong… I like curvy sinks. Curvy sinks need love too.
OOH Wait…
I didn’t share the absolute best part of the week yet.
Seeing the Hudson Basalt Jeffery CourtTile on the floor next to my newly refinished sink!!!! Man this tile y’all, it’s beyond gorgeous!
(Jeffery Court Hudson Basalt Tile)
Since there’s been a lot more prep going on this week, we’ll start laying tile next week. We cannot wait to see how the Hudson Basalt Tiles look all finished. I also can’t wait to see the wall tile, Basalt Subway by Jeffery Court, start going up!
I’m so nervous about tiling!!! The only tile I’ve laid is really small projects in the past. We’ve never tackled something this big!
Thank you as always for stopping by and checking out our progress! Also, don’t forget to check out our Instagram feed and stories for more Jeffery Court Renovation Challenge updates!
