Starting the Blog:
January 2017- This was harder than I thought! Everything thing I read was ‘just one Click’, ‘start a blog in 10 min’, ‘so easy anyone can do it’. Well… not for me. I consider myself pretty tech-savvy, no expert by any means, but no dummy either and it was not just Click, Click, Click… Boom you’re done. I’m on my second week of trying to find time between work days, naps, preschool drop off, laundry, and play dates to sit, and figure out the less than clear directions of how to set up my WordPress Theme. Conveniently, WordPress is open for help M-F 8-5 mountain time, so 9-6 central time (my time). NOT!!! I have no time available in their oh-so-convenient help line hours! Grrrrr.
I have made my list of questions and now I just need my husband to take a vacation day! Hopefully I’ll get YellowRoseLife.com built soon, I don’t want this excitement to wear off! Time to make another coffee!
Update!
February 2017- Ok, a month and several cups of coffee later, I have a new BFF, her name is Christina, and we met on WordPress chat support 🙂 hahaha! I have been working almost every day on the Blog in my very little free time. A few days a week I get some golden hours when my two oldest are in school, so that gives me a small window of time where I can call or chat with WordPress help line. Now that the learning curve is almost over, I can now say WordPress is much easier!
If I was allowed to make one request, I wish my theme came with a set up video, where it showed you how to make ALL changes. It was hard to know where in the WordPress dashboard to go when I wanted to change a specific thing. Example: I learned that you change your side bar for a page in appearance> widgets, and you change your side bar for a blog page in appearance> customize. My type A, has to have them match! I also had to school myself, using google, on all those fun vocab words: widget, jetpack, plug-in, etc…
All the hard work is finally paying off, and I’ve learned so much! I can’t wait to launch and show it off!
