Our home renovation, 8 months in. We are tired, excited, ready to be done, and loving the progress.
First of all, I have to say, I’m so sorry for the silence on the blog. Posting about the renovation has been so hard! The house demands ALL of our free time, which is few and far between with kids and work. I had this dream before we started that I’d be cranking out the posts left and right once we started construction. A POST FOR YOU, AND A POST FOR YOU, WE ARE ALL GETTING A POST… in my best Oprah free giveaway voice.
It just hasn’t been the dream blogging world I envisioned. With our lack of scheduling, having the kids home every day during summer, demanding work schedules, summer traveling, and my sister’s wedding that we were very heavily involved in, we have really dropped the blogging ball.

We have been keeping y’all updated more frequently on our Instagram stories and feed. If you don’t follow us on Instagram yet, go HERE and follow! Instagram has been a little easier to keep you all updated, but we are really hoping to change that! We are working really hard to get back on a strict schedule now that kids are back in school.
By the way… back to school is insane… our oldest started kindergarten this year, and none of my mom friends with older kids have warned me about this!!! It’s nuts! So many meetings, so much shopping, so many emails, so much prep! For mothers day out, it was like, you gotta backpack and nap mat, LET’S GO!
Ok, back to the blog, I easily get off topic sometimes.
So we’re starting a stricter schedule, and blog writing is in it! My husband and I tell each other all the time, our brains are just exploding with info we want to share about the house, how we did things, how we paid for all this, and how you can do it too! So please stay with us! We love having y’all here!
More on the house update now; we are tired and exhausted… however, we can see the light. Our contractor has been doing all the work that we’re not qualified, by any means, to do. Then we pick up where he leaves off. We spend our nights after kids go to bed painting, cause it’s a quiet activity that won’t wake them up. And our weekends are filled with everything else.
Where is the renovation progress now?
All the flooring is in! Hallelujah! It’s been really hard moving furniture around our house like musical chairs, on a much larger scale, for 2 months now. We only have one room left of sheet rock repair, from where we installed a new window and took out a window. I could not wait for sheetrock to be done, cause sheetrock dust is my new archenemy. Even when you cover beds with plastic, that stuff goes everywhere… and I got so tired of laundry, I just started shaking out our clothes, and running them through the drier. Shhh, it’s our secret….
The kitchen is almost done. All the appliances and countertops are in then we just have touch up painting to do. If you missed our kitchen plans you can find them HERE! The bathrooms still need paint, mirrors and a metric ton of caulking to do. Living room is done except some fireplace maintenance and we need to hang my beautiful new mantle.
New master addition is almost done; we have caulking and a bit more painting to do. I think we will be moving in our new room next week, which is an exciting step! I’m tired of sleeping on a mattress on the floor of the living room! If you missed our Master addition plans, you can find them HERE!

The thing we are tired of MOST.
We are so tired of spending our days in the Garage apartment. Our kids and us are mostly tired of living in about 300 square feet. They just don’t have room to run and play. Not to mention, we are constantly going back and forth between the house and apartment during the day to get things we need. We have a kitchen and laundry room in the apartment, which is a godsend, but the back and forth is getting old. And since we have been “living” there, we feel like hoarders because all the kids stuff, mail, school stuff, toys, house stuff we’ve bought, etc… just piles up everywhere, and despite my best efforts it just never seems to stay organized, because we are out of room. When we move back into the house permanently, its going to feel like we’ve moved into a McMansion!! Hahahaha.

But don’t get me wrong; our garage apartment has been an amazing asset to have! I’d probably be ready for the looney bin if we didn’t have that space to spend our days. (We are still sleeping in the main house at night) But nice space or not, it’s getting so small, like smaller by the day.
In a very small nutshell, that’s what we’ve been doing the last 4 months since our last post about the house. Our plan once we’re back on a good schedule, is to backtrack and give you more room layouts and major progress that has already happened. Just so you can see things in more detail, and we can show you how to DIY some home improvements yourself!
